Smaragdia souverbiana (Montrouzier in Souverbie & Montrouzier, 1863)
Distribution:
From the Red Sea and east Africa through Australia to Samoa, New Caledonia, the Philippines, and Fiji. Presumed to also be in Indonesian and Indian waters but not confirmed. This species was found in the Mediterranean along the coast of Turkey in 1994 and Cyprus in 1997. Both findings presumed to be Lessepsian migration northward through the Suez Canal, probably in commercial ship ballast. Specimens examined were from South Africa, the Philippines, Australia, and the Red Sea.
Habitat:
Marine: saltwater grass flats on eelgrass and under rocks.
