Vitta piratica (Russell, 1940)
Distribution:
From the southern Yucatan Peninsula through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, to southern Venezuela, and far northern Brazil. Also on the islands of the Greater and Lesser Antilles (Cuba, Santo Domingo, Trinidad).
Habitat:
Brackish: within tidal influence, in swampy areas on plant stems or stranded logs. Russell (1940) reports ecological notes by Doctor Elizabeth Deichmann of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University. She found this species in the Caroni Swamp, Trinidad, on the stalks of brackish water marsh grasses in shallow, muddy water that became quite warm in the mid-day sun.
