Vitta zebra (Bruguière, 1792)
Distribution:
Apparently restricted to the northeast coast of South America from Venezuela to Brazil. Reported findings from the Caribbean (e.g. Gundlach, J., 1877) are most likely misidentified Vitta usnea (Röding, 1798). Similar findings from the Pacific are Vitta sobrina Récluz, 1846. Both species are very similar to Vitta zebra.
Habitat:
Freshwater: on rocks, plant stems and mangrove roots, often miles upstream.
